Hello
As a soon-to-be RCSSD BA Graduate, I have worked hard developing my practice of creating theatre that challenges audiences. I have created a diverse selection of scripts, and I enjoy challenging myself with the work I create. I have also supported my work by utilising skills in Acting, Project Management and Stage Management.
My Story
I’m Piper (She/They), a scriptwriter and general busybody originally from Lincoln, England. For the longest time, I aspired to be an actor, and hoped to enter into West End Musical Theatre when I became an adult. Throughout my younger life, those around me supported me as much as possible, my family paying for dance classes, music lessons, and encouraging me as I explored performance extra-curricular throughout Primary and Secondary school. I ensured my education was focused around the creative and the theatrical, my A-Level education being selected based on how it could benefit my future acting career. London was always my goal.
I eventually took the plunge and moved to London in 2021, aged 18, to continue my education at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama – I was accepted into their BA Writing for Performance course. This was a big change, as my start into further education was not quite as imagined. When I received rejections for all the acting & performance courses, I had to decide what my next step was – I was sure that if I took a gap year, I might never re-enter the education system. Upon reflection, I had found a passion for writing was traced through my younger years, writing scripts for my friends and I to perform in primary school, writing stories, both short and novel-length, throughout my secondary education, and, most recently, writing a script for my English A-Level coursework. It was upon this revelation that I decided to pursue a career behind the pen (or keyboard) and applied for the BA Writing for Performance course.
Throughout the three-year course, I have learnt what it is to be a writer – the trials I may face, the quick explosion of burnout, the struggles of writers block – and throughout, I have used these emotions to meet deadlines and explore what theatre can expose and discuss. I have also learnt what it is to be a creative in a broader sense, working behind the scenes in Project Management, Stage Management, and I have even re-entered the spotlight to act during showcases. Through all these discoveries, I have been able to find more of who I am and who I can be in the creative world, and who I might want to be further down my career path.
I have also found passion within part time work at Escape Rooms, a common topic of discussion when stumbled upon. It has helped me to develop myself as a person, and allowed my creativity to be developed and preserved in the most difficult times of the course.
As of graduating, I am passionate about creating more taboo theatre in content, attempting to challenge the societal norm in my form, and creating theatre that can be enjoyed and discussed by the audience. I have previously written Horror and Naturalism, two of my favourite areas to write within, allowing me to explore ways to fuel challenging conversations. I hope that my future work can bring more real-life experience and relatable imagery to stage, and continuing to allow myself to explore every-day life experiences and how this impacts myself and my work.
